Prominent businessman accused of stalking Brittany Lauga

A PROMINENT Rockhampton businessman has been charged with unlawfully stalking Keppel MP Brittany Lauga.

Petros Khalesirad was charged with the offence over the weekend, being remanded in custody for a period of time and released on bail on Saturday afternoon with strict contact conditions.

The Morning Bulletin understands the charge relates to allegations of a string of incidents involving Ms Lauga.

Mr Khalesirad is scheduled to appear before the Rockhampton Magistrates Court on Monday, September 19.

Mr Khalesirad works in the IT industry, having run several businesses in Rockhampton, and is a former winner of the Young Queenslander of the Year award in 1999.

On his Facebook page, Mr Khalesirad on Monday wrote a post stating he was taking "a step back from social media".

Ms Lauga, who won the seat of Keppel in 2015, said she was unable to comment on the case as it was before the courts.
