WHEN Stanley Ainge answered the telephone to find he had become $1000 richer, he could not quite make out what he had won.

But when his wife Val grabbed the phone to listen, the Pialba couple were thrilled to learn they were the lucky winners of APN's Cashed up for Christmas EFTPOS Card competition, which they entered through the Fraser Coast Chronicle.

The pair, aged in their 70s, will soon pack their bags for a 46-night trip to South African and Asia.

"It will come in handy when we come back from our cruise as we will be a bit short on chips," Stanley said.

Their ultimate Christmas travel treat has been made sweeter by the unexpected win and both Val and Stanley agree the phone call was a pleasant surprise.

"We get the Chronicle every day, I entered only two entries into the competition," Val said.
