Star players to share success tips
TWO Australian Olympians are heading to Maryborough for a coaching clinic this weekend.
Angie Lambert and her husband Stephen both competed for Australia in hockey and they have the gold medals to prove it.
Angie won a gold medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games while Stephen has two Commonwealth Games gold medals the first in Manchester in 2002 and the second in Melbourne in 2006.
They will bring their love and knowledge of the sport to three coaching clinics at Maryborough on the weekend.
The first will be held on Saturday at 1.30pm to 3pm and the second will be from 3.30pm to 5pm and the third will be on Sunday from 9am to 11am.
Maryborough Hockey Association development officer Cheryl Brown organised the clinics and was thrilled that the two Olympians had agreed to host the clinic.
She said they were both enthusiastic about visiting regional areas and giving back to the sport they achieved so much in.
Brown said the kids who will be participating in the clinics were excited to meet the two Olympians.
Stephen is a specialist goalkeeper and she said meeting him would be a good opportunity to get some pointers for the budding goalkeepers around the Fraser Coast.
Angie was a half or a defender and she would also be able to give plenty of good tips, Brown said.
The clinics will be held at the hockey fields in Maryborough’s Woodstock Street.
