Man fined and disqualified after driving into floodwaters

POLICE are reminding motorists not to drive through floodwaters after a man became stranded near Biggenden and had to rescued by a specialist team.

A police representative said a motorist was driving on Seccombes Rd at Degilbo on February 22 and ignored the warning sign and flashing amber lights indicating the causeway was flooded.

"The motorist has then become stranded on the causeway and has been unable to exit his car safely due to the high water levels," the police representative said.

"Emergency services were notified and the specialist Fire and Rescue Swift Water Rescue helicopter was deployed.

"The motorist was then extracted from his vehicle safely.

"This type of behaviour and ignoring warning signs/lights could have proven fatal.

"The motorist was issued with a notice to appear in court for careless driving - due care and attention and was convicted and fined $1200 and was disqualified for driving for six months."
