THE Nikenbah market organisers have reassured people a development on land currently used for parking will not put an end to what is, for some, a 30-year Sunday tradition.
Hervey Bay Animal Refuge runs the markets, and has done since 1984.
One of refuge's volunteers, Marie Hill, said she had heard the development rumours and while there was an element of truth to them, it would not mean the end of the market.
"(The land) is not being sold, it's being developed by the same original owner… there will still be room for parking," Ms Hill told the Chronicle.
"The Nikenbah Markets will still continue.
"(The land owner's) given us ample space for parking, plus we've got all down that side road where some already park now."
Stallholders set up shop at the Nikenbah grounds on the first and third Sunday of every month.
The next market date is June 1.
