THE car park on the western side of Hervey Bay's Stockland Shopping Centre will officially open on Friday.

The car park, viewed and given approval by the Fraser Coast Regional Council on Thursday, will initially be used by tenants at the centre.

Building is advancing at the site as the expansion of the shopping centre continues.

Centre manager Paul Kelsey said the work was on schedule.

Part of the concrete base had been laid and pillars had been erected in the parts of the expansion that will accommodate a Coles shopping outlet and Kmart.

Mr Kelsey said a new food court with outdoor and indoor seating would be built at the centre, which would look out on Central Ave.

He said he would soon reveal several new stores which will open at the centre.
