Stockland staff recruited before shops even open

DUNCAN McNeil of Hervey Bay has been looking for solid work since 2009.

"When I heard Stockland was extending I looked into what was opening there, like Coles and Kmart, and just applied for those," the 23-year-old said.

"I was definitely excited when I heard they were introducing new jobs.

"In this day and age when it seems like jobs are hard to come by, the opportunity of this extension is really fantastic."

Mr McNeil, who has experience in retail, applied for a job at Kmart, which is one of the many stores opening as part of the Stockland redevelopment.

"I got a confirmation at the start of this month that I got the job," he said.

"They haven't actually given me a start date but they said around June."

Mr McNeil hopes to pursue a career in music.

"My passion is music but I just need a job at the moment," he said.

"I'll take what I can get."
