Australian 16ft Skiff Championship is underway at the Bay

UPDATE: Some of Australia's best 16ft skiffs are on the water for the opening Australian 16ft Skiff Championship race.

Strong winds threatened the race, but organisers were confident conditions had calmed enough to allow competition.

EARLIER: A DECISION on whether the first race of the Australian 16ft Skiff Championships will go ahead will be made in the next hour.

Strong winds forced the cancellation of the first 13ft race, and organisers are concerned the winds could damage the boats.

The first race was scheduled to be held this afternoon.
