11-year-old girl taken to hospital after being hit by car

UPDATE 2pm: TWO people have been taken to hospital after a schoolgirl was hit by a car in East Mackay.

The 11-year-old girl was treated for "arm and leg injuries" before being taken to Mackay Base Hospital in a stable condition, a Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said.

A woman was also taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Plasterer Chris Englert was on his way to a job when he drove past the incident.

He pulled up to see what had happened and, after seeing a teacher run up to try to stop traffic, went to help.

"I just ran up (to the teacher) because I am wearing high-vis already and thought I would give her a hand," he said.

Mr Englert directed traffic while police, fire crews and paramedics were on scene.

The road is now clear.
