UPDATE: Wall scorched and carpet burned at Hervey Bay High
THE fire which broke out in a Hervey Bay State High School classroom left scorch marks on a wall and burned the carpet.
A Department of Education and Training spokesperson said the small blaze caused only minimal damage.
The school is working with police and Queensland Fire and Emergency to investigate the incident.
No students or staff were injured.
About 1000 students were evacuated during their lunch break onto the oval after the blaze broke out - they were there for up to an hour.
Queensland fire and emergency services attended the scene, with an ambulance on stand-by.
ABOUT 1000 students were evacuated onto the oval after a fire broke out in a classroom at Hervey Bay State High School.
It is believed staff extinguished the fire when it broke out at noon.
Students were on lunch break when the fire broke out.
The kids, between grades seven and 12, were on the oval for about an hour.
Investigations into the cause of the blaze will continue but the Chronicle understands there was minimal damage.
An ambulance was at the scene on stand-by, with a fire crew.
