Retro style guru is the judge to watch at Cooly Rocks On
DASHING back and forth between the Gold Coast and London may seem hectic, but Greg Pead doesn't mind a smidgen.
Every time he visits London, he comes back with an array of vintage clothing for his unique boutique, Retro Sheila, at Coolangatta.
Mr Pead has rubbed shoulders with royalty as a frequent visitor at Buckingham Palace and was partner to Lady Diana's infamous butler, Paul Burrell.
But his greatest claim to fame would have to be his collection of retro clothing.
"Over the years I've collected about 100 special items for the Cooly Rocks On Festival," he said.
"I keep a close eye out all year round and when I spy something I grab it."
Mr Pead shares his name with Aussie actor Yahoo Serious, but their fashion sense is worlds apart.
He dresses the part each year for the Coolangatta retro event, wearing something different every day.
While his shop carries clothing from the 1940s through to the 1970s, his favourite era is the 1960s.
"There was so much colour in the '60s," he said.
"There's a dramatic difference between the '50s and '60s."
Mr Pead has been selected as the only male judge in the Miss Cooly Rocks On Glamour Pageant.
"I'm very flattered," he said.
Owner of That Shop, Coolangatta, Karen Drew, said there were a record 49 entrants this year.
"It was very hard, but we had to narrow it down to 12," she said.
