Sunshine Coast's Matthew Fillipi wins Big Brother Showdown

THE Coast's soldier turned Big Brother hunk Matthew Filippi has proved he works well under pressure, winning the show's first Showdown competition last night.

The new Saturday night games edition of Nine's reality series sees the Big Brother housemates compete in a series of challenges for a prize of luxury pampering and control over the week's nominations.

Filippi showed he had both physical and mental strength over the four knock-out rounds, where he kept team mate Tahan from falling in a tank full of eels and kept his cool in a tile-stacking competition against Jade to win the night.

He was also key to his team winning the "Words with Housemates" challenge, pointing out they were spelling an answer that was too long.
