Captain America succeeds with flying colours in winter movie

IF comic-themed movies aren't your thing, you best steer clear of the cinemas for this year.

Marvel is making quite an impression on the big screen.

Ending last year on a thunderous high note with Thor 2: The Dark World, this year has been kicked off with everyone's favourite soldier, Captain America, in The Winter Soldier.

Chris Evans dons an impressive muscular physique to play Captain America.

Struggling to embrace his role in the modern world, Cap battles a new threat from old history - The Winter Soldier.

Where perhaps Thor 2 failed in the way of plot, Captain America succeeds with flying colours of red, white and blue.

Despite this fictional character, the story brings up some valid points of the price of freedom and fear.

Captain America is closely assisted by fellow Avenger Natasha Romanoff, aka the Black Widow, (Scarlett Johansson) and Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson) as they uncover the truth of the world's new threat.

The line-up includes awesome performances by Robert Redford, Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie who plays Falcon.

Captain America is a perfect popcorn movie, beautifully crafted to comic credibility and entertaining as hell - not a bad effort for the writers of television show Community right? (PS - see if you can pick out the Community cameo in the film.)

One word of advice: Be sure to stay behind for the two following scenes after credits. Yes, there are two!

With this year starting off so well, I can only imagine what we have to look forward to in the world of Marvel later this year: The Amazing Spider-Man 2, X-Men: Days of Future Past and Guardians of the Galaxy.

It's really time to save the date!
