Support for hospital's Christensen House is building
THE Christensen House Steering Committee has been overwhelmed by the level of support they have received so far from the Fraser Coast construction industry for the construction of the new Christensen House accommodation facility.
Glen Winney, managing director of Win Constructions Queensland, and manager of the project, said his office had been flooded with offers from all over the community from businesses and individuals wanting to be involved in this project.
"We have already received significant discounts from consultants who are assisting with getting the project started, and we are grateful for the generosity offered by these businesses," Glen said.
"We are also starting to receive offers from other businesses to supply whitegoods, furnishings and landscaping assistance," he said.
Christensen House will be located a short distance from the new St Stephen's Hospital in Hervey Bay and will provide short-term accommodation to patients and family members from outlying areas who need to access healthcare services at the hospital.
It will also provide accommodation for visiting medical practitioners and increase the range of medical services available in Hervey Bay by attracting visiting doctors to the area.
While the major cost of the facility has been covered by a generous donation from the Christensen family, the hospital is encouraging local businesses and services to contribute to ensure the construction of the facility is a true community project.
Glen said the steering committee was particularly interested in hearing from local businesses who would like to help with the supply of building materials for the project.
