Suspected arson destroys van

A CARAVAN and annexe at Coconut Grove Caravan Park in Pialba were burnt down about 6.15pm on Saturday night in a fire that police are treating as suspicious.

Hervey Bay Police Sergeant Dave Dansie said the occupant of the caravan was visiting another caravan at the time.

“No-one was injured but the van and all the contents inside were totally destroyed,” he said.

Sgt Dansie said firefighters were able to stop the fire spreading to another caravan only two metres away.

He said police from the scenes of crime section and a Queensland Fire and Rescue Service investigator were at the site yesterday morning trying to discover the cause of the fire.

“We don't have the results of that yet – they've taken a number of samples to be analysed to determine what started the fire,” Sgt Dansie said.

“Investigations are continuing at this time.”
