Tesla Powerwall sustainable home battery units roll out

AUSTRALIAN energy retailer Simply Energy is beginning to offer the Tesla Powerwall.

Simply Energy, part of the global ENGIE group, expects to install the first Powerwall units in early 2016.

Simply Energy chief executive Carly Wishart said Tesla's home battery storage had attracted enormous interest internationally and in the Australian market.

"ENGIE is committed to being a global leader in sustainable energy tran- sition and we are delighted that Simply Energy is now working with Tesla Energy for the sale and installation of the Powerwall through- out Australia," Ms Wishart said.

"Coupled with our solar PV offering, we see home battery storage playing a major role in the transition to a low-carbon economy," she said.

The Tesla Powerwall is a home battery that can charge from energy sources including solar panels or from the grid when utility rates are low.

Automated, compact and simple to install, Powerwall enables customers to maximise self-consumption of solar power generation.

Ms Wishart said Simply Energy's move into battery storage complemented the company's commitment to delivering energy solutions.
