Sydney shakes off wet weather for Star Wars premiere

THE Force must have been at work to clear Sydney's wild weather in time for tonight's Australian premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The sun was shining as a few lucky super fans and stars including David Campbell, Jackie O and Angela Bishop arrived with children in tow.

The red carpet at Moore Park's Hoyts cinemas included music by DJ Stormtrooper, a virtual reality experience sponsored by Optus and remote controlled mini BB8 driods.

"Aussie Vader", a Sydney police officer who preferred not to used his real name, plans to see tonight's premiere and then immediately enter another cinema to see the film again with his mates.

He first wore his costume at a Star Wars convention in the US in 2010.

"The main thing I want to see is Luke Skywalker (who is missed from the trailers)," he said.

"He's the name on everyone's lips".

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens at midnight tonight across the country and is expected to break box office records.
