Take a ride on The Sunlander as it turns 60

QUEENSLAND Rail's iconic Sunlander is turning 60 next week and to help celebrate there are some special sale fares on offer.

Customers travelling on The Sunlander in June can enjoy 60% off adult economy fares.

For guests travelling on the official birthday on June 4, celebration economy seats will cost $60 each way.

More than 3 million people have travelled on the historic train since it entered service in June 1953, the year of Queen Elizabeth II's coronation, and Sir Edmund Hillary's conquest of Mt Everest.

"Across six decades, The Sunlander has served Queensland well; it is one of the top 25 rail journeys in the world and is an important link between coastal communities," said Queensland Rail Travel general manager, Carol-Anne Nelson,

"With views of the Queensland scenery rolling past and enjoyment of the finest services, the journey on The Sunlander is an important part of the holiday itself, rather than just the destination," she said.
