Teachers strike a wage deal

FRASER Coast teachers will receive a pay rise of 12.5 per cent over three years after the State Government and the Queensland Teachers’ Union reached an agreement.

Under the deal state school teachers will get a pay boost of between $7500 and $11,500 over the period.

The proposal will now be put to a state-wide ballot of teachers.

In July and August teachers in Maryborough and Hervey Bay protested against the government’s offer, pushing for more negotiations.

Soon after, the QTU was ordered to cancel further strikes by the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission.
