Teen accused of leaving car crash

HE WAS dressed to impress but Hervey Bay police didn't appreciate the actions of an 18-year-old driver who allegedly fled the scene of a car accident at the weekend.

The accident happened on the corner of Long and Corser streets in Point Vernon about 4.30pm on Saturday.

Police say the Point Vernon teenager, who was driving with three other passengers all wearing evening clothes, lost control of the car and hit a sedan, in which a family and their newborn baby had been travelling.

One of the teen's passengers, a 17-year-old woman, had minor head injuries while the passengers of the other vehicle, including the baby, were also taken to Hervey Bay Hospital for observation.

When they arrived at the scene police were told the driver had left and searched for him for 15 minutes before finding him allegedly hiding in a nearby residence.

He was arrested and taken back to the Hervey Bay police station where he was breath tested and allegedly blew 0.20.

He was charged with drink-driving, unlicensed driving, obstructing police and other outstanding matters.

He will appear in court next week.
