Teenage girl stabbed in the heart at shopping centre

A 16-year-old girl is in an induced coma after she was stabbed in the heart at the Morayfield Shopping Centre around 6pm yesterday.

She was treated at the scene by Queensland Ambulance Service's highly trained Trauma Team who immediately gave her blood through a cannula.

They said she was in a stable condition before she was taken to the Royal Brisbane Hospital where she had surgery and was put into an induced coma to aid the recovery process.

The single stab wound to her left breast nicked the outer layer of the teenagers heart known as the the pericardium.

A 14-year-old girl has been charged with grievous bodily harm and will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
