Teenager attacked in main street

A TEENAGER walking down a main street of Maryborough was assaulted by a drunken man in an unprovoked attack on Wednesday night.

Two 17-year-old boys were walking along Alice Street, between March and Zante streets, when they saw the man about 6.30pm.

Police were told the offender appeared drunk and staggered onto the road to pick up a dropped carton of beer.

The two youths kept walking but the man ran up behind them and tackled one of the boys to the ground.

The victim got up and continued walking but was hit from behind.

“He struck the victim with a single punch to the back of the head,” Sergeant Col Bastable said. “The suspect then ran off.”

Sgt Bastable said the victim had given a good description of his attacker.

He was described as a caucasian male about 20 years old.

The suspect was slim, about 180cm tall with fair complexion and short black hair.

The teenager said the man had a streak or stripe through his hair.

He was wearing a black shirt with an unknown emblem on it and three-quarter length denim pants.

“If anyone knows anything, please contact Crime Stoppers,” Sgt Bastable said.
