Accused teens face trial
FOUR teenage boys accused of the unprovoked bashing of two men are expected to face trial in the Maryborough District Court today.
Jason Walter Bishop, Dylan Anthony Hodges, Corey John Lees and Isaac Raymond Sanderson have all been allowed bail while they await their trial.
The boys were alleged to have assaulted two men on Kent Street in Maryborough in the early hours of January 17. They were all 17 years old at the time.
The two victims had been to a local nightspot before walking to a Kent Street bakery to buy some food.
One of the victims, 33-year-old Craig Gillard, was allegedly set upon first after comments by the accused that he was “a faggot”.
When 30-year-old Ryan Wolstencroft saw the attack and tried to intervene he too was allegedly attacked.
One of the alleged victims sustained a fractured nose and cracked eye socket.
The four accused were committed to stand trial after committal proceedings in Maryborough Magistrates Court in July.
Magistrate John Smith likened their alleged actions to those of “thugs”.
“Pack mentality won't be tolerated in this community,” he told the defendants.
All four teenagers appeared briefly at the Maryborough District Court yesterday while the case was mentioned.
It was adjourned to this morning at 9.30 to be heard before Judge Richard Jones.
