Tender calls for upgrades to Bay's worst intersection

UPGRADES to Hervey Bay's worst intersection are a step closer with the state government calling for design tenders on Friday morning.

Member for Maryborough Bruce Saunders said planning would continue on the Maryborough-Hervey Bay Rd and Urrraween Rd corner while worked continued on securing funding for the project.

"I understand the need for an upgrade at this intersection and the government is working hard to find a funding solution to deliver this important work," he said.

"In the mean time we have continued planning for this upgrade so we're in the best possible position to start work once funding for construction becomes available," he said.

Mr Saunders said the tender call for the next stage of the planning process before the project could advance to construction.

More than 4400 people earlier this year signed a petition organised by Hervey Bay man Geoff Redpath to have the dangerous corner upgraded.

In November the state government announced traffic lights would be installed at the intersection once the design is complete and funding is available.

It is not clear when that funding will be granted.
