Dangerous intersection to be upgraded
UPGRADES to Hervey Bay's worst intersection are a step closer with the state government calling for design tenders yesterday.
Member for Maryborough Bruce Saunders said planning would continue on the Maryborough-Hervey Bay Rd and Urraween Rd corner while work continued on securing funding for the project.
"I understand the need for an upgrade at this intersection and the government is working hard to find a funding solution to deliver this important work," he said.
More than 4400 people earlier this year signed a petition organised by Hervey Bay man Geoff Redpath to have the dangerous corner upgraded.
The Chronicle's Facebook readers welcomed the announcement, including Ross Liesch.
"We should all thank local resident Geoff Redpath for this. He was the one who gathered over 4,000 signatures on a petition from residents wanting this long-overdue work done," he wrote.
In November the state government announced traffic lights would be installed at the intersection once the design is complete and funding is available.
Member for Hervey Bay Ted Sorensen said the state government had bowed to public pressure to upgrade the notorious intersection.
