Test your sandcastle building skills for cancer coins

HELPING to cure cancer will soon be as easy as shovelling silica granules together at Scarness Beach for young Monique Bailey, aged seven.

She hopes others will join in on the fun at Saturday's Sandcastle Building Competition at the Scarness Pier.

Prizes of gift cards, books and mountain bike accessories will be up for grabs for sand architects who collect the most amount of dollars thrown in their buckets by an appreciative crowd.

Monique and her mum Charmaine thought of the idea as a way to raise money for the Cancer Council Queensland.

Sweet dreams of sandy mermaids embellished with shells and sticks have kept Monique excited as she has counted down the days to the competition.

SANDCASTLE BUILDING COMPETITION

When: Saturday between 4pm and 6pm.

Where: Scarness Pier, Scarness.

Cost: Entry is free. Donations are to the Queensland Cancer Council.
