I DON'T proclaim to be flexible in any shape or form and can't remember the last yoga class I attended.

So it was with slight hesitation I recently made my way to Zama Yoga and Fitness for a Thai yoga massage.

While I was looking forward to the prospect of an hour of having the knots kneaded out of me, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect.

The lovely Deb Goulding was my therapist, and her warm and calm nature immediately had me at ease.

So what is a Thai yoga massage, many of you may ask?

I can barely touch my toes but my inflexibility didn't turn out to be an issue.

The fairly new therapy combines Thai massage and yoga, along with a little bit of acupressure and meditation thrown in for good measure.

The hour was filled with a combination of assisted yoga poses, lots of stretching and some glorious massaging.

I can barely touch my toes but my inflexibility didn't turn out to be an issue.

Deb only pushed me as far as I wanted to go, and while a few of the stretches brought a few tears to my eyes, I'm sure my muscles needed them.

The client is always fully dressed and no oils or creams are used, which I've read "allows for ease of movement and flexibility".

Walking out, I not only felt 5cm taller but a whole lot more relaxed.

Centre owner Nikki Loxley said it was the benefits of both yoga and massage that made this blended therapy so popular.

"With roots in yoga and Ayurveda, this ancient technique combines the power of energetic work and acupressure, including marma points and meridians," she said.

"It also includes meditation, yoga postures and hands on massage to relieve pain and tension and release energy blockages, enabling powerful healing."

A session at the Southtown centre costs $70 for an hour or $85 for 75 minutes.
