The 70kg catch of a lifetime takes two hours to reel in

IN ONLY two metres of water in the Great Sandy Strait Jonathan Jones has landed a fish weighing more than many young men.

It took Jones and his friend Alexis Pageau more than two hours to reel in a big-eye tuna weighing about 70kg and measuring 1.6m.

The pair, from The Endless Session, are filming on the Fraser Coast, chasing marlin off Fraser Island.

Jones, a fly fishing star from Sydney shared the story of his "insane" catch.

"We had been running up and down the shallow flats searching for cruising fish when we spotted what we thought was a big marlin from afar," he wrote.

"I managed to get the eat and holy hell did we s*** our pants - it was mayhem.

"Well over two hours later this fish gave up and after a lot of team work, this fish was boated."

Jones described the catch as a "beautiful fish of a lifetime".

He said it was a "reward" for the pair after a few marlins got away early.

The Endless Session will spend another week filming in our waters.

In a few weeks the Hervey Bay Game Fishing Tournament will be held on the Fraser Coast.

From November 12 more than 30 boats from outside the region will descend on the Great Sandy Strait to target black and blue marlin.
