CBD clean could be yearly event

THE FIRST official spring clean of Maryborough’s CBD was so successful it could become an annual event.

Droves of people hit the streets of Maryborough on Sunday to make the streets, shops and sidewalks sparkle in time for the Christmas season.

The event was organised by the council and the Maryborough Chamber of Commerce and was attended by business owners, council staff and the general public.

Councillor Gerard O’Connell was stoked with the turnout and the atmosphere of the working bee.

“It was like one of our classic community events but without the rides and face painting,” he said.

“We all had a great time and we got a lot done.

“I’d like to make it an annual event on a weekend in November – a big spring clean in the lead-up to the Christmas retail season.”

Participants were thanked with a free barbecue lunch following the clean-up.
