The Flash S2E05: The Darkness and the Light preview

*potential spoilers lie ahead if you haven't seen up to season two episode four*

PREVIEW: Now Harrison Wells has revealed himself to Barry Allen this season's story arc just got a whole lot more interesting.

Wells (Tom Cavanagh) was Barry/The Flash's (Grant Gustin) mentor in season one, which culminated earlier this season with Wells' confession he murdered Barr's mother.

Now the Harrison Wells from Earth-2, who is credited as the man who saved Central City, revealed his presence to Barry as the Scarlet Speedster was attacked by King Shark last week.

How this affects both Barry, and Team Flash's dynamic given Wells' closeness to all members last season is unknown, though they won't exactly warm to the man early.

The Darkness and the Light features the debut of Dr Light, who comes through the portal from Earth-2.

Whether that is at the behest of big bad Zoom is unclear, though CW's synopsis says Jay Garrick (Earth-2's The Flash, played by Teddy Sears) knows Dr Light from their time on Earth-2, and more importantly knows she can be reasoned with.

Patty Spivot (Shantel VanSanten) moves closer to being Barry's official love interest for the second season as the anti-metahuman taskforce member and our titular hero go on a date.

A few more things:

- The West family dram will probably continue. Iris (Candice Patton) learned mum Francine (Vanessa Williams) had a son that Joe (Jesse L.Martin) doesn't know about yet. Can she keep it secret..?

- Cailtin Snow (Danielle Panabaker) held Harrison Wells highly in season one. Despite all that's happened will she forgive or work with the genius?

- Cisco (Carlos Valdes) continues to learn more abilities that suggest he will soon become Vibe.

The Flash airs Wednesdays at 6.30pm (AEST) on Fox 8 (Channel 108).
