THE foreman who oversaw the entire construction effort at The Vault On Ruthven has been immortalised in a very unusual way.

Don Lawson sat down for shave yesterday within the former Commonwealth Bank's vault, where topless "Barbie barber" Breanna Francis will be snipping and trimming for at least the next month.

To Mr Lawson's bemusement, the room has been named "Don's Barbershop" - the plaque at its entrance even alluding to his year of birth, "established 1937".

"I only just heard about it. It's definitely a first for me," Mr Lawson said yesterday.

The construction effort has been a massive undertaking, with 15 skip-bins of demolished interior removed before any building was under way.

In all, management spent $2.5 million on the new interior.

"The demolition was definitely the hardest part, just getting everything out," Mr Lawson said.

Topless hairdressing may not be the most run-of-the-mill career, but the corset-sporting Ms Francis said it was nonetheless empowering.

"I get a lot more money doing this than just hairdressing, and more money than I would just stripping," she said.

Vault general manager Thor Vallmuur said the barbershop's moniker was recognition of Mr Lawson's tireless efforts.

"It couldn't have happened without him."
