THE swelling in his face may be subsiding but the effects of a king-hit attack remains a nightmare for Hervey Bay taxi driver Peter Olson.

He has been a taxi driver for just five months and said he was petrified to be heading back to work.

"I don't feel safe but I need to support my family," Mr Olson said.

"I was off work for about four or five days and only went back because I can't afford to be off work."

The incident, which occurred early on Saturday, April 5, saw an unidentified man approach and assault Mr Olson who was on a break at the time.

"He said, 'you f***ing deserve this you f***ing c***' before he punched me in the face," Mr Olson said.

Police are still searching for the culprit who was seen leaving Torquay's Viper Nite Club moments before the attack.

Mr Olson said the incident had taken a mental toll.

"I just don't have that trust in the public, especially after dark and especially in areas where people have been drinking," he said.

"It is a very uncomfortable feeling going to work and not knowing if you are going to make it home.

Anyone with information which might help police should phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
