2. PORTSIDE BY NIGHT

When: Friday, December 11, 5.30pm.

Where: Departs from Customs House Interpretive Centre, Maryborough.

What: Your guide will take you through the early days of the Heritage City; spinning tall tales of sailors, smugglers, brothels and opium dens from years gone by when Maryborough was one of the busiest ports in Australia.

Cost: $10 adult, children 6-17 years $5.

 

3. ROCK OFF CHRISTMAS PARTY

When: Friday December 11, 6pm.

Where: Rock Off Indoor Skate Park, Pialba.

What: BMX, scoot or skate your way to a very Merry Christmas with Rock Off.

Cost: $15.

 

4. GET INTO BOOKS

When: December 7-January 6

Where: Online at summerreadingclub.org.au

What: Join in the Summer Reading Club. Read 10 books or complete 10 hours of reading to qualify for the major prize draw including a mini iPad and gift cards.

5. BEYOND: SPARKS DANCE CENTRE

When: Saturday, December 12, 1pm matinee, 6.30pm evening performance.

Where: Hervey Bay High School Great Hall, Pialba.

What: Watch the Sparks Dance Centre dancers push beyond their limits.

6. HERVEY BAY RSL CHRISTMAS CAROLS

When: Saturday December 12, from 5.30pm.

Where: Pialba Seafront Oval.

What: Come and spend the evening in song with familiar and contemporary Christmas music and carols. Food stalls available, or bring a picnic and share with friends. Bring your own rug or chairs.

7. ULYSSES TOY RUN

When: December 13, breakfast at 7am, departure at 9.30am.

Where: Meeting at the Brolga Theatre. The parade will leave the Brolga Theatre at 9.30am and head to the Bay Central Tavern via the Esplanade at about 10am.

What: Motorbikes, classic cars and hotrods travelling from Maryborough to Hervey Bay to raise funds for the Hervey Bay Hospital Neonatal Special Care Nursery.

Cost: Gold coin donation.

 

8. BURRUM HEADS CANDLELIGHT CAROLS

When: Tuesday December 15, 7pm.

Where: Burrum Heads Community Church grounds, Burrum Heads Rd and Howard St.

What: Get into the Christmas spirit with lovely community carols in Burrum Heads. Bring along a chair or blanket and listen to the Mainly Music pre-school children sing, as well as the Village Voices Choir.

Cost: Free.

 

9. CRAFT WORKSHOPS

When: December 15 and 17, 10am-2pm (Umbrella & Card), December 15 and 17, 10am-2pm (World Map & Wishing Tree), January 18, 1pm-4pm (printmaking).

What: Create special Christmas gifts for someone special this year.

11. UKULELE JAM SESSION

When: At 10am on December 17, 24 and January 7, 14, 21 and 28.

Where: Scarness Park.

What: Jive along to the sound of tropical ukulele. The ukulele group will keep you entertained with perfectly chorded songs.

12. FESTIVE MARKETS

When: Thursday December 17, from 5pm.

Where: Wharf St, Maryborough.

What: Enjoy markets and live entertainment just before Christmas. Bring a rug or chair to chill out on the Town Hall green. One lucky person will receive a prize of about $200, given by the Maryborough Chamber of Commerce.

13. GET CRAFTY

When: December 17 and January 14,10am-2pm, December 1 - 24 all day for Christmas tree decorating.

Where: 166 Old Maryborough Rd, Pialba

What: Get creative with fun workshops at the Hervey Bay Regional Gallery with a dream catcher workshop on December 17 and a decorative pot workshop on January 14, limited spaces for each.

Cost: $15 per person. Tree decorating is free.

 

14. MOVIE NIGHT

When: Friday December 18

Where: 166 Old Maryborough Rd, Pialba

What: Animals from the Wildlife Sanctuary will add to fun of the ultimate backyard adventure movie Honey I Shrunk the Kids to be shown as part of a special movie night at the Fraser Coast Discovery Sphere.

Cost: $5.50 per child, $6.50 per adult and free entry for adult with paying child.

 

15. CHRISTMAS CONCERT

When: Sunday, December 20.

Where: Scarness Park.

What: Listen to music from 10am onwards. Santa arrives at about 11am and then again at 1pm. Wander through stalls and enjoy live entertainment and a sausage sizzle. Free rides, face painting, circus skills, and more.

Cost: Free

 

16. NYE FUN FAIR

When: December 31 from 5pm - 2am.

Where: Newtown Oval, Adriane St, Maryborough.

What: The Maryborough District Cricket Association is hosting a NYE Family Fun Fair. Seafood and meat buffet dinner and fireworks at 9pm.

17. BACKYARD ADVENTURE

When: Open 7 days from 10am-4pm daily.

Where: Maryborough City Hall, Kent St

What: You'll never look at your backyard the same again after experiencing Backyard Adventure's amazing interactive exhibits.

Cost: Adults $12, children 3-16yrs $10, concession/senior $10 Family (2 adults and up to 2 children) $34.

 

18. HOP INTO HISTORY

When: Monday to Friday: 9.30am to 3.30pm, Saturday & Sunday: 9.30am to 12.30pm (closed Christmas day)

Where: Portside museum, Wharf St, Maryborough

What: Try a time machine and jump back into history exploring the wonders of the past including a sound and light show as part of brand new exhibits at the Customs House and Bond Store Museum in Maryborough. Discover what it was like to be a child on an immigration ship in the 1800s.

Cost: $2 per child, $5.50 per adult, $12 family pass includes entry into three museums.

 

19. INSIDE A STORY

When: Open up until January 31 from 9.30am-3.30pm

Where: Wharf St, Maryborough

What: Imagine finding yourself in the middle of a story, inside a magical book filled with charming creatures, paintings, furniture and letters.

20. WORLD OF WONDER

When: Open 7 days from 10am to 4pm

Where: 166 Old Maryborough Road, Pialba

What: Eyeball a living fossil, explore the wonderful world of whales and join in fish feeding during the school holidays at the Fraser Coast Discovery Sphere. Have fun with wildlife and interesting creatures while learning some fun nature facts and getting creative with craft sessions.

Cost: $5.50 adults, $5 concession, $4.50 child, $18 for a family and children under 4 are free.

 

21. WIND UP WET!

When: Open 7 days 10 am - 5pm

Where: Main St & the Esplanade, Hervey Bay QLD 4655

What: When it's hot, there is no better place to cool off than at Wetside Water Education Park. Look out for the giant inflatables at the Hervey Bay and Maryborough Aquatic Centres.

Cost: Free entry, $6 ticket for a 4 minute session on the FlipSide Board Rider wave machine, where park-goers can surf a static wave.

 

22. STEAM TRAIN RIDES

When: Every Thursday and last Sunday of the month.

Where: Queens Park, Maryborough.

What: Ride a working replica of Queensland's first steam engine, or take a seat on a miniature steam train for a guaranteed fun. Miniature trains run as part of Maryborough's Sunday in the Park, every last Sunday of the month.

Cost: $5 per person.

 

23. HORSE RIDES

When: Every day, twice a day at 9.30am and 2pm.

Where: Hervey Bay Rd, Susan River

What: Reefworld Aquarium is an all-natural aquarium, using only sand filtered sea water and natural sunlight.
