Wide Bay side ready for state tri

THE WIDE Bay side headed to the state triathlon titles made the most of their last hit out before heading to the titles at the end of this week.

Christian Wilson was first in the boys under-16 event while Mikeely Roberts was first in the girls.

Both said they were looking forward to the state titles and were happy to finish first on Sunday.

In the senior events, Steven Schofield was the first over the line.

Schofield blew away the competition in the cycling leg to finish comfortably in front.

Scott Farrell finished second.

The hot weather was hard on the competitors, especially in the running leg of the race.

The triathletes enjoyed the swimming leg, although the length of it, at 800m, appeared a bit daunting, organiser Ron Morgan said.

“It was a bit choppy but not too bad.”

In the womens race Hannah Black was first and Carla Thomas was third.

Highly-rated competitor Jimmy Trevorrow was left a little disappointed after a tyre went flat on the cycling leg.

The same fate also befell Gary Pearce on the cycling leg.

After winning the triathlon Schofield, who is travelling to China to compete in a triathlon in a month’s time, definitely didn’t let any grass grow under his achievement.

He was straight back on the bike in the afternoon to continue his preparations for the event, cycling anywhere from 100 to 200km.
