Stickers for white ribbon day

IF you look in your rear vision mirror over the next few weeks you may notice a vehicle approaching you with a large white ribbon on its front window.

The ribbon has been placed on the front window to let people know that white ribbon day will be held on November 25.

In 1999, the United Nations General Assembly declared that day as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, with a white ribbon as its iconic symbol.

Australia joined in on the project in 2003 and last year a policeman from Warwick came up with the idea to build awareness of the campaign by placing white ribbon stickers on the district's police cars.

The sticker project has now expanded to take in the Fraser Coast and through the work of Sgt Hayley Skyring the local roads will be seeing plenty of the distinctive white ribbons.

The Fraser Coast Chronicle has joined the campaign along with WIN television, Wide Bay Transit and a host of other community organisations.

Police, ambulance and fire services have also stamped their vehicles.
