Things go bump on city streets
NINE elderly passengers on a retirement village bus escaped injury when the vehicle crashed into a car yesterday.
Traffic had to be diverted following the three-vehicle crash on Torquay Road in Pialba about 9am.
It is understood the bus crashed into the back of a sedan, which was then pushed into the back of a station wagon in front.
The female driver of the station wagon was taken to hospital with neck injuries.
Pussyfoot Shoes employee Dale Jones heard the crash while working nearby.
“I heard the bang and I looked up and saw this car go straight into the red car,” she said.
The road was blocked to west-bound traffic for about 50 minutes following the crash.
Just moments before, police and fire crews had also blocked off a section of Fraser Street in Torquay, due to fallen powerlines.
A garbage truck clipped the lines while emptying an industrial bin.
The driver was confined to the truck while Ergon Energy carried out repairs.
