Internet safety as thousands of kids dress in red for Daniel

THOUSANDS of kids across the Fraser Coast will wear the colour red at school on Friday to raise awareness for child safety.

Sandy Strait State Primary School principal Sharon McMorrow said students in all levels would learn ways to be safe in public and online.

She said as well as watching videos produced by the Daniel Morcombe Foundation, kids would learn about the family password trick.

"If someone pulls in to pick up a child, they must say the family password to the child first," she said.

The family password is to help kids identify who it is their parent's have entrusted to pick them up, she said.

Cyber safety is another important topic which will be covered.

"Kids under thirteen shouldn't have a Facebook account and this will be discussed (with reference to the videos)," Principal McMorrow said.
