Coast aquatic centres to get a real workout this summer

AS THE mercury continues to rise, thousands of people are heading to WetSide and the Fraser Coast's aquatic centres to cool down.

Some days more than 500 people are visiting the council's swimming pools, especially on the days when the inflatables are operating, Fraser Coast Mayor Gerard O'Connell said.

About 200,000 people visit the Fraser Coast aquatic centres each year; about a quarter of those will visit in the next six weeks.

Last year about 130,000 people visited WetSide, however the Fraser Coast council no longer keeps figures for WetSide Water Park.

"The Maryborough Aquatic Centre has seen an increase in activity in all their programs and will see the inflatable back in the pool for summer," a council spokeswoman said.
