Tiaro Landcare takes top gong

THE most innovative environmental projects on the Fraser Coast were recognised last Friday when Fraser Coast Council announced the winners of the 2011 Mayoral Environment Awards.

Tiaro and District Landcare Group took out the mayor's choice award for their 13-year long work to promote responsible land management and conservation practices.

Fraser Coast Anglican College won the secondary school environment project for their service project where students assist in the council nursery.

Torquay State School won the primary school environment project for their dedication to sustainability practices, including a school environmental management plan written this year.

St Mary's Primary School won the encouragement award for the school's numerous vegetable gardens.

Other winners included Fraser Island Natural Integrity Alliance, Eco Queenslander, Eco Systems Homes, RV Homebase and Hervey Bay propagators.
