Tight contest in Woody Island race
HERVEY Bay sailor Gavin Patterson was pipped at the post by fellow sailor Daryl Dorsett on the weekend – but he’s not holding that against him.
The two competed in the Hervey Bay Boat Club Yacht Squadron’s race around Woody Island on Sunday.
Dorsett, sailing Pork Chop, was first on handicap, while Patterson, sailing Red Ted, had to settle for second place.
In third place was Hervey Bay sailor Tony Richardson, sailing Pocahontas.
Despite finishing second, Patterson said he had enjoyed a great weekend of sailing, describing the conditions as “perfect”.
“It was really lovely,” Patterson said.
“There was a northerly wind blowing constantly, about 12 to 15 knots.
“We had beautiful conditions.”
The Hervey Bay Boat Club Yacht Squadron will be racing again in two weeks when the fourth race of the summer series gets underway.
