Times are a-changin'

IT’S ONLY been open a few weeks but changes are already installed for the district’s latest and biggest tourist attraction, WetSide.

Wide Bay Water Corporation has been closely monitoring the centre and has decided to immediately increase security and, in a move that will please many families, to also open the park an hour earlier.

The bad news is that it will now close an hour earlier.

The new times started yesterday and will be from 9am to 7pm Tuesday to Saturday, 9am to 6pm Sunday and noon to 7pm Monday. Regular maintenance will be carried out Monday mornings.

On the security front there will also now be full-time security guards on site backing up 12 CCTV 24-hour cameras.

Wide Bay Water Corporation CEO Tim Waldron said he wanted to make sure everyone was safe and that was the reason for the new full-time security.

“Also by bumping the hours forward we hope to spread out when people choose to visit.

“Because we’ve never run a water park before we thought we would run things on a trial basis.

Mr Waldron also said the light and music water shows would not start until about March.

WetSide has proved an immediate hit with the public. Last Saturday there were nearly 2000 people there at one stage, while most days there are about 1000.
