Tin Can Bay couple wins Lotto

A JOURNEY around Australia is the trip of a lifetime for a retired couple at Tin Can Bay; and now, thanks to their dedication to Gold Lotto, that dream will come true.

The retirees, whose names have not been released, won an impressive $1 million in Saturday Gold Lotto at the weekend.

They did not realise their numbers had been drawn until Monday, however, when they received a phone call from Golden Casket.

“I just can't believe we've won,” the winning wife exclaimed after shedding a few happy tears.

“I've been playing Gold Lotto with these same numbers for years and years. It's such a surprise and what an amazing start to our retirement.”

The two, who are in their 60s and moved to Tin Can Bay less than a month ago, have been married for more than 25 years.

They bought their lucky ticket from Newsextra Cooloola Sands, choosing numbers from birthdays and other dates special to them.

The two have plans for their winnings: “We were going to travel around Australia on the cheap in our old motor home because that was all that we could afford,” the woman said. “Now we can do it in style. Maybe we'll stay in luxury accommodation rather than camping grounds and an upgrade for the motor home is something we'll consider.”

Three others also won in Saturday's Gold Lotto - another from Queensland and one each from Victoria and New South Wales.
