Toogoom seawall cracked and torn while works delayed

TOOGOOM Beach Progress Association has voiced concerns that a seawall off Kingfisher Pde is not being built to the engineer's requirements.

Association acting president Norm Hoffman said, because of the way work was being done, rocks were cracking and geotechnical matting was being torn.

He said approvals meant construction had be carried out to standards set down by the engineer Aurecon.

Lanson Civil was awarded the $1.1 million contract to undertake the project.

The Chronicle unsuccessfully attempted to contact Lanson on Tuesday.

Mr Hoffman said he had raised the issue with Fraser Coast Mayor Gerard O'Connell and Fraser Coast Regional Council chief executive Lisa Desmond by email in December and at a January meeting.

Cr O'Connell has confirmed the meeting and that he was made aware of the concerns.

"We had the meeting and he put his claims on the table and we talked about it for an hour or more and I think he's still not happy to be honest..." he said.

"I can verify because we've got council officers and compliance people and State Government who are monitoring what the job superintendent and the contractor are doing.

"All the reports back, all to our knowledge, is the job specs, the design specs approved by State Government and council are being followed."

He said work had been postponed on the project until more of the required types of rocks were quarried.
