Top drop at new shop
AFTER months of anticipation the bottle shop of all bottle shops has opened in Maryborough — just in time to stock up on Christmas drinks.
Dan Murphy's opened its doors yesterday after several months of construction.
The 730sqm liquor barn is just behind the Old Sydney Hotel, with parking off Richmond Street.
Store manager Matt Lee said trade had been “very steady” on the first day but he expected it to get even busier as Christmas approached.
“Since our signs went up a few days ago people have been trying to get in,” he said.
“It really is great for consumers.”
Mr Lee has spent the past three-and-a-half years working as stock manager at Dan Murphy's in Hervey Bay.
“I was there for the store set-up and have just come back from Bundaberg where I helped in the set-up of a new store which has just opened,” he said.
“This store has 23 employees, all from the local area.”
The opening of the Maryborough store brings the number of Dan Murphy's outlets in Queensland to 31.
About 3500 products are on offer at the alcohol mega-store, which is open in Maryborough seven days a week.
Wine and beer tastings will be held in store every Friday and Saturday at a custom-built tastings bench.
The first is on today from 3pm until 8pm, then on Saturday from midday to 6pm.
