Top show for showjumpers

FRASER Coast Pony Club Zone 7 riders ended the year on a high note with a top performance at the annual Zone Teams Showjumping Challenge.

The two-day event held in Caboolture at the weekend saw four local teams tackle three rounds of tough showjumping, in which the three best rider's scores were tallied up. Bay Pony Club president Lyndal Roos said the teams, which were made up of riders from Hervey Bay, Tiaro, Bundaberg, Gin Gin, Maryborough and Isis, were a shining example of good sportsmanship.

“The weekend definitely encouraged riders to look out for each other and cheer on the teams, making it a fitting way to end the 2010 competition calendar for Pony Club,” Ms Roos said.

“The riders looked after their teammates and encouraged the other teams over the two days.

“Considering it had been postponed from October it was great to see everyone turn up and ride so well.”

She said heavy rain put a dampener on Sunday's challenge but it wasn't enough to stop the “very competitive” 12 and under team that placed second and sixth overall.

“All the Zone 7 teams did a great job considering it rained on the Sunday morning and everyone got saturated.”

The associates also place fifth overall.
