Top 48 tourism must do's on our own doorstep

TOURISTS come to the region to experience everything magical about the Fraser Coast.

But it's sometimes easy for those who live here to forget the sights we have right here on our doorstep.

The official travel blog of Queensland Hello Sunshine released a list of the top 48 things to do on the Fraser Coast for tourists this month, but Fraser Coast residents could also benefit from a reminder about the fun and entertainment to be had in the region.

  • Lace up your boots for an adventure in the subtropical rainforests of the Fraser Island Great Walk.
  • Ride around Maryborough's Queens Park aboard a miniature steam engine during Sunday in the Park.
  • Take to Hervey Bay's quiet waters on a paddle board.
  • Do the Maryborough Achievers Walk and learn about Australians who achieved great things, like the original Ironman Hayden Kenny and Duncan Chapman, the first Anzac to land at Gallipoli.
  • Get up close and personal with humpback whales as they rest and play in the warm waters off Hervey Bay.
  • Take a tour to watch pods of dolphins frolic along the coast of the Great Sandy Straight. You might also see turtles and a dugong.

  • Do a road trip along Great Beach Drive on Fraser Island and take in two UNESCO Biosphere Reserves and a World Heritage Listed Marine Park.
