Tough start for Brisbane Strikers
BRISBANE Strikers are in unfamiliar territory two games into the National Premier League season.
The defending league champions followed their 2-1 loss to Western Pride in the opening game with a 2-0 loss to rivals Lions FC.
It leaves the Strikers, for whom former Sandy Straits junior Ryan Palmer has played for the past three years, in the relegation zone.
The introduction of the Football Queensland Premier League brought a promotion-relegation system. The bottom two- placed NPL teams will be relegated to the FQPL, with the top two FQPL teams progressing to the NPL.
Promotion and relegation is based purely on the first team results.
Wide Bay Buccaneers' FQPL team had the bye.
The Buccaneers' junior teams hosted Sunshine Coast Fire at Martens Oval, Bundaberg, on Saturday.
The under-13 Buccaneers won 3-1 and the U15s won 1-0.
The U14s lost 6-0, U16s lost 7-0, the U18s lost 5-1, while the U20s lost 2-0.
Wide Bay play Ipswich Knights at Eric Evans Oval, Ipswich, this Saturday.
