LARGE trees have been removed in Pialba as part of works to re-align the Esplanade and increase parking.

Councillor Trevor McDonald said "some trees, including a mature Poinciana tree" had been removed.

"Our priority is to ensure that the figs on both sides of the road are safe," he added.

"More trees and shrubs will be planted along the southern side of the Esplanade near Main St."

But there's a chance the figs will be pruned to improve safety for high vehicles using the Esplanade.

"As part of the works the Esplanade will be raised by up to 300mm which might put high vehicles too close to the limbs," he said.

Staff will not know until the works have finished.

Hervey Bay Foreshore Protection member Rodney Dudgeon said the public should have been told.
