Man veered into truck's path

AN INDIAN tourist caught on video veering into the path of an oncoming truck on the Bruce Highway has faced court for driving without due care and attention.

Jagroop Singh Grewal insisted he did not use his mobile phone while driving on January 11 but when police checked the phone there were two outgoing calls recorded.

A truck driver following Grewal called police at 9.35pm after noticing the car swerving all over the road and alternating in speed from 60kmh up to 100kmh.

A passenger used the video camera on a mobile phone to record Grewal’s erratic driving, including his near miss with an oncoming truck.

Police pulled Grewal over just north of Tiaro.

He told police he was tired and denied using his mobile phone or the MP3 player sitting in the centre console.

But a check showed calls had been made from Grewal’s mobile phone at 9.32pm and 9.40pm.

He appeared in the Maryborough Magistrates Court and pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention.

Grewal was fined $600 and disqualified from driving for six months.
