Truckie hits girl without knowing

A TRUCK driver was completely unaware his rig knocked a bike-riding school girl to the ground yesterday morning until he was contacted by Maryborough police.

The St Mary’s College student was waiting at the lights at the corner of Alice and Lennox streets about 8am when she was struck.

A truck had turned at the corner and came a bit too close for comfort.

The vehicle knocked the bicycle and rider to the ground opposite Maryborough’s fire station.

The truck driver had no idea he had hit the girl and kept going.

Firefighters were alerted to the incident and rushed to the girl’s aid until an ambulance arrived.

She was taken to Maryborough Hospital for observation.

A witness gave a statement to police and the driver was tracked down.

He attended the police station later in the morning and was not charged.
